Tom Overbaugh was born and raised in the Fall Creek neighborhood of Ithaca. Before starting with Ehrhart Propane, he worked as a store manager then district manager of Century Housewares, a catalog order company. In 1976, he and his wife Kathleen moved to Trumansburg with their family. In 1978, he started working with Kathleen’s uncle, Gerry Ehrhart, and in 1984 he and Kathleen purchased Ehrhart Propane.
Over the years Tom grew Ehrhart Propane into Ehrhart Propane & Oil, evolving from 15 employees to 26, tripling the size of the customer base, and adding fuel oil, diesel and wood pellet sales to the mix. He has served his industry associations in many different positions including State President, Secretary and Education Chairperson of the New York Propane Gas Association and is currently the NY State Director to the National Propane Gas Association, Board member of the National Propane Gas Association, Member of the Engine Fuel Advisory Committee to the National Propane Research and Education Committee, and the chairperson for the NY Propane Gas Engine Fuel Committee.
Tom is an avid antique car collector. He still owns the first car he bought when he was only 15 years old. He attends many car shows, and vintage rallies, and has been known to travel very long distances to go to a car show or even just to see a collection.
In 1984, Tom joined Rotary. He has maintained perfect attendance since his first Rotary meeting in November of 1984 and is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow. Tom and his wife Kathleen first hosted a Rotary Exchange Student in 1985. This began his long tenure with the Youth Exchange program. Three of his four children have participated in the program: John to India in 1986; Bill (who is a Rotarian and a Paul Harris Fellow) to Hungary in 1994; and Lydia to Thailand in 1996. He and his wife have hosted 14 long-term Rotary Youth Exchange students over the years. In addition to their five natural grandchildren, they have six youth exchange grandchildren, all of whom they have had the opportunity to visit in five different countries.
Bill Overbaugh grew up in the propane industry, painting tanks and working on the plant in the summers. After high school, he was an exchange student in Hungary, then attended Washington and Lee University in Virginia. He worked for a short time at Microsoft, then settled in Washington, D.C., working as a web developer and programmer. He moved “back home” in 2003, and began working at Ehrhart Propane & Oil. In the first year, he worked alongside all employees, experiencing each aspect of the company. Now, as General Manager, Bill has applied his extensive technology background to streamline systems and reduce operating costs. He is an active member of the NY Propane Gas Association, the Empire State Petroleum Association, and the National Propane Gas Association, and has spoken at national conventions and conferences on employing technology in the heating industry. An avid car enthusiast like his father, Bill still owns his first car, a 1955 Buick. Every day he now drives a 2006 Mustang that runs on propane. He lives in Trumansburg with his wife Darlynne, who owns Life’s So Sweet Chocolates, and their daughter.
